A famous Tharu...
Buddha was a Tharu; originally the Tharu were Buddhists. Living in a Hindi kingdom, they are both Hindus and Buddhists living side by side. The Tharu have there own language, culture and traditional beliefs
The Tharu program is to benefit both you and the Tharu people.
It offers you a sneak-view in their daily live & the people can be proud at their culture. Many think all has to be done our way and abandon their own culture. By this program we try to keep the culture as that will be their strongest power to have an own economical base. You help them see the value of their daily live and show we do not always know better or more. You will find many new things but also see that we have much income. 50% will benefit the people directly, 50% will go Into the do-it account to support our programs for the community.

Visit by bike or walking through the village. In the morning, seeing their morning rituals
Visiting a house, sharing a cup of tea, waking up with the tharu, incl. museum visit
Max. 6 people per group, 7-9 am guided by our staff who are all local.
Tharu stick dancing (350 rupees p.p.)
Visit traditional tharu stickdancers at the culturale centre
Walking - Taste of tharu (250 rupees p.p. )
Small tour from Sapana lodge in the afternoon along the river trough the village to get a idea of local live and the special character of the environment you stay in. Guided with explanation by our staff or local guide from the village. Max. 8 people per group 1-1,5 hours
Tharu cooking and lunch- 50% price will go for the village (950 rupees p.p.)
Preparing lunch in a tharu house in the village. With and for local people and local ingredients Max. 3 persons in one house ½ day including lunch. A unique program that is very highly appreciated by our guest and the tharu woman who cooked with them.
Tharu Fishing 50% price will go for the village (650 rupees p.p.)
Fishing with a net, a basket, walking Trough the river or in a tree boot. When coming back you can share great stories over a typical rice wine and tharu Appetizers

Tharu Decoration 50% for village (350 rupees p.p.)
Explanation and making of tharu decorations. With a group or individually you can make on lokta paper a own welcome to the house. Lokta paper is special paper only made in Nepal. 2 hours, max. 10 people
Night Walk (650 rupees p.p.)
1 to 2 hour program, one of the our staff take you very special place where you can hear sound of the animal and some tme you might see the rhino crossing the river a lot of butterfly etc.
Field works 50% price will go for the village (350 rupees p.p.)
Join the women on the field and plant rice,
Cut the grass, carry the leaves, become tharu

Tharu and Nepali fashion (excl fabric 950 p.p.)
Have your own dress, suit, shirt or trousers made in local style by the local tailor. Very practical, partly adjusted to our comfort. You can choose a model at our lodge. We take you to the market or shop to choose the fabric. The local tailor will come to take your sizes. For man and women. Min 2 days.
Tharu Massage (750 rupees p.p.)
A Tharu massage where relax in tharu style. When people become week less or ill then, Tharu use massage. This is kind of medicine for Tharu people. This massage will refresh you and give you more energy. 30 min
Tharu Tattoo painting 50% price will for the village (650 rupees p.p.)
The Tharu are known for the many tattoos on their legs and arms, especially by the women. If you want a Tattoo by yourselves, then that is possible. Not a permanent one, but a removable one. Using henna, for instance. Local woman will make the henna tattoos.
‘A good taste' of your own
With a maps provided by the Lodge you can explore the surroundings by biking or walking.
Please respect the people's privacy. Do not go into a house uninvited, greeting them is highly appreciated. Do not offer money but if you want to give something contact our staff for opportunities. We also have a donation box for local projects. Please respect the dress-code when visiting a village. If making photo's showing them on a digital camera is a way of communicating and returning the pleasure you get from them. Children especially like this very much. Bikes are available at Sapana Village lodge.
Tharu Religious tour "Dev Ghat" (950 rupees p.p.)
To visit tharu religious and Hindus historical place called “Dev ghat” close to “Narayangarh” City.
When tharu people die they used to take this place for funeral procession. This is also the joint place of two very famous river called “Trisuli” and “Kali gandaki”. Min. 2 person.

A special course to learn in&outs of Nepali typical kitchen. Our cook will show you how to prepare Nepali food in our own kitchen. This program is including lunch or dinner.
