Chepang Hills Trek Siraichuli

This unfrequented and mesmerizing hiking trail takes you through the Chepang Hills, 80 km west of Kathmandu and north of Chitwan National Park. It’s suitable for both the experienced and the less experienced hiker and ideal for travelers who want to go off the beaten Nepalese paths.

During this beautiful hike, you’ll enter the territory of the local Chepang community, the ethnic inhabitants of the Chitwan district.
The Chepang are hunter-gatherers, cave dwellers, of Tibeto-Burman origin. Over the past two to three decades, their lifestyle shifted from the semi-nomadic to more permanent farming of maize, millet, and bananas. The steep hills of their terrain however do not yield sufficient crops all year round and the forest remains an important source of food. The Chepang practice animism, with emphasis on nature and ancestor worship, although they are strongly influenced by Hinduism and Buddhism.

You’ll spend the 2 nights at a family’s home where you get the opportunity to cook in the host’s kitchen and, together, prepare an evening meal according to Chepang tradition.
At Siraichuli viewpoint, at 1945 meters, you can enjoy the magnificent panorama of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and The Ganesh Himal Mountain ranges. On the way back, the beautiful Sita-Ram Jharana waterfalls offer the chance for a refreshing dip!
