The gestation period of an elephant is approximately 18-22 months and generally the females give birth to one calf, occasionally twins. After the long wait, Srijanakali, the pregnant elephant of Sapana Village Lodge has given birth to a male calf on January 6th 2014 at 14.22 pm. We actually guessed and expected twins from her, but one HEALTHY male calf was born successfully. This has brought very much happiness among us and some of our guests that stayed during the birthing. We were very lucky to watch this most amazing moment in life from very close distance. Through this short message on Facebook, we would also like to inform everyone that the process of making fence for mother and calf is on action where they can freely move around without chain.
